Client briefing
The Wize protocol is an LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) wireless communication standard designed specifically for industrial IoT, with a particular focus on smart metering of water and gas. The client asked us to design an add-on device — one able to read existing mechanical meters — and transmit the reading using this protocol.
The solution
The greatest difficulty in the project lay in power management and in optimising the transmission system. The transmitter works at 169 MHz, which calls for a large antenna: a helical structure was studied and built for the purpose.
