Client briefing

The client holds a patent covering a technology for eye stimulation using controlled voltage pulses. To carry out a first validation of the product, the client also built a POC (Proof of Concept), which was used to begin validating the therapeutic effectiveness of a treatment that can bring temporary relief to patients with low vision.

DAOS came in to redesign the device from the ground up, naturally preserving the features specific to the treatment, and guiding the client through product certification.

The solution

The device is an electrical stimulator able to generate sequences of pulse trains that the patient can adjust. Under the procedure patented by our client, it is the patient who sets the intensity of the treatment, up to the point where they perceive phosphenes — the flashes of light visible with the eyes closed.

That is the exact moment the treatment starts taking effect, and it then continues under firmware control for the time set by the protocol.

A high-visibility display, a purpose-built keypad and an active feedback system make up the product's simple but effective user interface.
