Client briefing
The client, Sky's German operation, had to start measuring what its subscribers were watching within a very short time. The request was therefore for a device able to intercept and analyse subscribers' viewing sessions through the Ethernet port.
Further requirements were full integration with the entire existing set-top box estate, and installation simple enough to cause no disruption to the households that agreed to have it fitted.
The solution
The device integrates seamlessly with the set-top box used in Germany. It also offers advanced features for identifying what is actually being watched, through analysis of ambient sound. The system comes with a back end for receiving and processing data, able to collect field readings over GPRS and deliver them to Sky Deutschland every morning.
Technical specifications
The greatest difficulty was the extremely tight schedule. In under four months we went from project approval to the first units being deployed in the field.
